JUNIOR HIGH SUNDAY SCHOOL

This past Sunday we continued our theme of, "God is Like a King." Our theme verse was Isaiah 43:15, "I am the Lord, your Holy One, Israel's Creator, your King." We took a closer look at the good and bad qualities of human kings in the Old and New Testament and how they compare to God - the perfect king. We thought about what qualities a king (leader) should have. Finally, we looked at some ways to establish kingly qualities in our daily lives. This Sunday, we will look at how God is Like a Human.

CORNERSTONE YOUTHQUEST BASKETBALL

Last night was our 1st night back in action. We had almost 40 boys out!!! Congrats to Matt and Mostafa for winning MVP. They showed respect on and off the court.
Respect: We respect ourselves and treat others with courtesy, dignity and positive regard. We honour the rights of others. We respect their belongings, the environment and the world around us.

5 MINUTE DEVOTIONS

"The generous prosper and are satisfied; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed." Proverbs 11:25
The word "misery" comes from the word "miser." If you are a miser with your money, your affection, and your love, you will be miserable. It is not possible to find a miser whose soul is not satisfied. Want to be prosperous? Be generous! On a scale of 1-10 how would others rate your generosity?

JUNIOR HIGH SUNDAY SCHOOL

God is Like a Guide
Last Sunday we discovered that it's hard to hear God's voice in the midst of our noisy and busy lives. We also learned that God can be trusted to lead us the right way every time. Finally, we practiced giving others sound advice. Our verse for the week was Isaiah 42:6, "I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them; I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth." This Friday we have our 1st junior high YouthQuest meeting at TMC - 7-9 and on Sunday we will look at, God is like a King!

SENIOR HIGH YOUTHQUEST

What Lies Beyond
Last Friday was our first meeting of the new semester. We met at TMC and started our journey on Revelation. We looked at chapter 1, watched a bit of the Matrix and talked about the future. Our main thought was, "We may not know exactly what the future holds, but we know who holds the future." Some other verses we looked at were; Joshua 1:5b, Matthew 11:28, and 1 Peter 5:7. Of course, we had pizza! We also found out who were the prophets in our group! See you on Oct. 3 at Doxa! (Tropicana Community Centre)

JUNIOR HIGH SUNDAY SCHOOL

GOD IS LIKE A BEST FRIEND
Today we looked at how God shares everything with us, because we are best friends. We also talked about what qualities make up a best friend.

Our challenge for the week was to pick one quality in our lives that we could work on, pick a specific time and place to practice it, in order to become better friends.

Our verse for the week was, "Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends" - John 15:13

God calls us to extraordinary love - ordinary just won't do.

5 MINUTE DEVOTIONS

Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about what happens to you. 1 Peter 5:7 (NLT)
Sometimes it's hard to imagine that a God who created the stars and the mountains is also concerned about what happens in your life. Tell him what concerns you-all of it. He's waiting to hear from you. What things in your life do you think are too small for God to be concerned about?

God is Like a Team Captain

Today we talked about why God pictures himself like a team captain as well as thinking about what it means to include people who aren't normally included.
Our memory verse for this week was 1 Peter 2:9, "But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God."
Essentially, our lesson was about grace - God chose us even though we didn't deserve it.
We also talked about our response to being chosen by God - being willing to follow his lead. For this we looked at Colossians 3:12
Finally, we made an action plan to make someone feel included this week (picked instead of picked on).

BECOMING A CHURCH OF FAMILY MINISTRY

A Family Ministry Vision

"Recent statistics from Search Institute reveal that mom and dad are the top influencers in the faith development of children, yet further data depicts a more alarming reality. While mom and dad are the top influencers in the faith development of children, only 12 percent of churched youth have ever talked with their mom about faith, only 5 percent of churched youth have talked with their dad about faith and only 9 percent of churched youth have experienced either family devotions, prayer or Bible reading in the home. And these statistics are from churched families"
