A NOTE TO STARKIDS VOLUNTEERS
Teamwork
How to be a S.U.C.C.E.S.S.F.U.L. team
S = Share a common vision - head in the same direction
U = Understand one another's weaknessess - strengths of many over weaknesses of one
C = Communicate goals clearly - write out specific goals and objectives
C - Communicate regularly - measure the ministry - how did it go this year?
E - Evaluate and adjust - be flexible
S = Share a common direction - the team is responsible, not just one person
S = Show Loyalty - as individuals, submit to the team
F = Focus on the Lord - be aware of Christ's presence with you during the day
U = Unite with a natural fit - develop chemistry
L = Listen to one another - don't be distracted by what you hope to say next
"Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work: If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up! Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken" (Ecclesiastes 4:9-12).

PARENTING WORKSHOP
FAMILY HARMONY:
Getting Along When We're All Different
Do your children and spouse all have the same temperament as you? Do you understand each person in your family perfectly? Do you get along in the same way with each person? Of course not. Everyone in your family is wired with a unique personality. Some are more easygoing while others are more rigid; some are more outgoing while other are more shy; some are more messy while others are, well, you get the idea...
While these differences can often be a source of frustration and stress, they can also be an opportunity to grow stronger as a family. Using key diagnostic tools, this seminar helps you get in touch with how each person in your family is wired. Learn how to champion strengths, complement weaknesses and communicate differences in your family!
Guest Speaker: Laird Crump from Focus on the Family
Date: Saturday May 31st, 2008
Time: 2-4pm
Place: Markham Village Train Station
214 Main Street North (south west of 16th Ave. on Markham Main St.)
Cost: $5 per person

SEEK THE DEEP - TEAMWORK
Most psychologists and other relationship experts will tell you there are at least 5 levels of verbal interaction:
Level 1: Entering the serf
- exchanging routine information
Level 2: Moving beyond the beach
- discussing events in other's lives
Level 3: Diving under the waves
- offering opinions and ideas
Level 4: Swimming down to the depths
- sharing feelings and needs
Level 5: Reaching the rock-solid floor
- risking complete transparency
What level are we at?
"Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work: If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up! Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. CORNERSTONE YOUTHQUEST - JUNIOR HIGH SNACK 'N' CHAT
Tonight we looked at our Wild Bible Truth, "God is Like a Lamb." Our key verse was John 1:29, "The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, 'Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!'" We looked the idea of Jesus as the sacrifice for our sins, discussed ways we can sacrifice for others and prayed about the Mexico mission's trip coming up this year, which 3 of our pre-teens are going on. Remember our next meeting (May 30th, LaserQuest!). Thanks to the Ling's for the great snacks!

CORNERSTONE YOUTHQUEST BASKETBALL
We had a great run of basketball tonight. 41 boys! Our highest number ever! Congrats to Fethi (senior) and Preston (junior) for winning the MVP for showing courage on and off the court. Today we talked about having the courage to ask for help when we need it. Don't be like Kobe in game 4 overtime :)
Coming up... our end of the year program. You do not want to miss it!

JUNIOR HIGH SUNDAY SCHOOL
Shad, Shaq, & Abe the Firemen
On Sunday (May 11) we studied Daniel 3:1-30.
We identified some of our convictions and beliefs, talked about how if we live for God, we will at some time, be called on to stand up for those beliefs in the face of opposition and we decided which convictions and beliefs we're willing to stand by.
Our memory verse was Daniel 3:28
This Friday we are meeting at The Main Connection for Snack 'N' Chat from 6:30-8:30. Our wild Bible truth is, "God is Like a Lamb." This Sunday we'll be looking at, "Joe's Bros the Sibling Sellers" - Responding when someone offends you.
Don't forget... LaserQuest May 30!

SANDWICH RUN
On Friday (May 9) a small group of us (YouthQuest senior high) went downtown to Nathan Phillips Square to hand out sandwiches to homeless people. We learned a lot from listening and were challenged to come out of our comfort zones.Part of our vision is to serve in Markham and beyond. We want to break down all walls of separation. Thanks Shirly for leading us.If you're wondering what those bills are... Ask Shirly about the million dollar question!

A NOTE TO STARKIDS LEADERS
TEAMWORK
Go Ahead, Be Dynamic!
1. Dynamic teams advance unity
- read John 17:21
2. Dynamic teams "flex" to meet changing needs
- can you bend without breaking?
3. Dynamic teams stay focused
- if you try to chase two rabbits, both will escape
4. In dynamic teams, the members value one another
- we go directly to one another if we have something to discuss
5. Dynamic teams play together
- to play together and to encourage one another, we may have to make a dent in our tightly crafted work schedules. Are you willing to make those tough choices for the sake of team health?
"Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work: If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up! How many "strands" are in our ministry team? Are we hanging together? Are we supporting the weight equally so that one person isn't bearing the entire load?
"All of us are smarter than one of us"
