JUNIOR HIGH YOUTHQUEST

Don't be foolish

Today's lesson focuses on how Jesus uses a story to issue a dare, as well how to understand why it's wise to apply Jesus' teaching to our lives. We'll look at Matthew 7:24-27 and our dare will be to choose a wise teaching from Jesus and apply it to our lives this week. Our memory verse is Matthew 7:24, "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock."

5 MINUTE DEVOTIONS

Luke 2:8-20
The Shepherds and The Angels
8And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. 11Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ[a] the Lord. 12This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger."
13Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, 14"Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests."
15When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, "Let's go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about."
16So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. 17When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.

BE THANKFUL

Name some specific people in your life you are thankful for. Tell God why they mean so much to you. While you're at it, tell them why they mean so much to you. What person has most shaped your life? Why?

DEEP THOUGHTS

A calling is something you discover, not something you choose. The word vocation comes from the Latin word for voice. Discovering it involves very careful listening. People will sometimes speak about "choosing a calling," but a chosen calling is an oxymoron. The whole idea of a calling is that there is a Call-er and a call-ee. - John Ortberg.

JUNIOR HIGH SUNDAY SCHOOL

Today our lesson is called, "Don't Waste Your Time." Our passage is Matthew 6:25-34 and our verse is Matthew 6:33-34, "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Our goals are to:
1.Understand that worrying about things can have a negative effect on them and the people they care about.
2. Realize that God wants them to trust him and trade their worries and anxiety for his perfect planet.
3. Figure out ways to view their worries with the proper perspective.

Don't forget, this Friday we are going bowling at Markham Bowl!

5 MINUTE DEVOTIONS

Psalm 100:1-2 - Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth, Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.

The word "worship" actually comes from an old English word, "worth ship." When we worship God, we tell him how much he is worth to us, or how worthy he is. Where else do you worship God besides church?
