JUNIOR HIGH SUNDAY SCHOOL

On Sunday we had our first lesson of the new school year. We started a unit called, "Pictures of God." It will be 12 lessons long and the first topic was, "God is Like a Gift." Our main verse was Ephesians 2:8, "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God."

Our goals for this week are to:
1. Understand why God is like a gift
2. Understand how we can be a gift to others by giving ourselves
3. Write out a plan of action for being a gift this week.

We were challenged to pick a person, and to be a gift to that person either:
loving them
encouraging them
serving them
reaching out to them
listening to them

Our next lesson will be, "God is Like Water."

DEEP THOUGHTS

There is no right way to do the wrong thing.

"Anger" is just one letter short of "danger."

FREE COMMUNITY CARWASH

Today Cornerstone had its annual car wash at the Markham Village Community Centre. We washed around 60 cars for free (with no strings attached). It was a great chance to show our love (and God's) for the community as well as meet some great people.

DEEP THOUGHTS

For most of my life, when I heard messages about following Jesus, I thought in terms of trying hard to be like him... It generally didn't work any better than would my trying hard to run a marathon for which I had not trained. I would end up exhausted and defeated. Given the way we are prone to describe "following Jesus," it is a wonder anyone wants to do it at all. Spiritual transformation is not a matter of trying harder, but of training wisely - John Ortberg.
