JUNIOR HIGH SUNDAY SCHOOL

Today, we talked about how God is like a potter. Our memory verse for the week is Isaiah 64:8, "Yet, O Lord, you are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand." We also made a plan to influence others in a positive way in the spirit of being molded by God and helping to mold others towards God and to doing good stuff.

Our end of the school year event will be on Friday June 12 at the TMC.

5 MINUTE DEVOTIONS

Proverbs 13:4 - The sluggard craves and gets nothing, but the desires of the diligent are fully satisfied.

There is no doubt about it. Giving your best in life will take you a long way in satisfying your desires. God is like that! What word describes you best lately - sluggard or diligent?

JUNIOR HIGH SUNDAY SCHOOL

Today, our lesson is on how "God is Like a Rock." We want to understand this as well as make a plan to be like a rock by growing in integrity and taking steps to correct a time when we were untrustworthy.

Our memory verse is Psalm 61:2 - From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

Classroom activities include: Rock war, TV commercials and an integrity check.

5 MINUTE DEVOTIONS

Matthew 6:25-26 - "That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life - whether you will have enough food or drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn't life more than food, and your body more than clothing? Look at the birds. They don't plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your Heavenly Father feeds them. And aren't you far more valuable to Him than they are?"

How much do you worry? What things do you worry about most?

Tonight, we watch the movie, "One Night With The King" Check out the link to give a brief summary.

Many people struggle to discover their unique purpose for which they are made. Somewhere between our circumstances and our choices, we usually discover our purpose in life. The secret to finding purpose is using what we've been give to serve God and benefit others.
The book of Esther teaches us that the greatest purpose for our lives is found right in the middle of our circumstances. But it may take great courage to live it out.

DEEP THOUGHTS

God wants greatness of soul - people who will endure, wrestle, persevere, refuse to quit, and cling to his goodness even when there is much they can't see clearly - John Ortberg.

YOUTHQUEST BASKETBALL

We had a great night with 40 boys out. Congrats to our MVP's who showed Courage on and off the court (Felix and Matthew).

5 MINUTE DEVOTIONS

Matthew 6:24
No one can serve to masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.
You can serve money as you try to serve yourself or money can serve you as you try to serve others. What is your relationship to money?

YOUTHQUEST BASKETBALL

We had a packed house with 45 boys out tonight! Congrats to Shane and George who won MVP honours tonight for showing courage on and off the court. Our end of the program celebration is June 10th. You don't want to miss it!

5 MINUTE DEVOTIONS

Romans 5:8 - But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

There is no level you must attain before God will love you. There is no threshold you must maintain before he will embrace you. Jesus died for you when you were as low as you could go. He will lift you high. On a scale of 1-10 how confident are you of God's love for you?

ARTICLE FOR PARENTS - TV AND FEAR BASED PARENTING

Lenore Skenazy is the author of the secular book, “Free-Range Kids: Giving Our Children the Freedom We Had Without Going Nuts With Worry,” which makes the case that the everyday threats to our kids’ safety “these days” are way overblown. Making a similar point to something emphasized in the Real World Parent seminars, Skenazy points to stats which reveal kids are as safe or safer now (in all kinds of ways) as they were when most of us were kids. And, yet, many of us parent as if the dangers are worse than they’ve ever been.
In a recent Salon.com interview, she pointed to the kinds of media parents consume as one reason for our perception about the threats to children.
When I was growing up, my parents were not watching those horrific television shows that are on now like “CSI” and “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.” They were watching “Dallas,” “Dynasty,” stuff with maybe big hair, but that was the biggest crime. It wasn’t all these shows with really graphic, horrifying consequences for kids.
And then, you didn’t have cable, and cable has to fill 24 hours with the worst possible stories, because if they filled it with stories about kids getting home safely, you wouldn’t watch. What’s the most compelling story that anyone has come up with so far? It’s something terrible happening to a child.
There’s no doubt that the kinds of stories we consume and ponder can contribute to the level of our parental fear. Paul’s teaching in Philippians 4 for walking with peace—even in parenting—was to focus our minds on things that are true and positive. If our news and entertainment makes that especially difficult, how are they really helping us?

JUNIOR HIGH SUNDAY SCHOOL

Happy Mother's Day!

Today we look how God is like water. Our memory verse is Psalm 63:1, "O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water."

We will seek to understand why God is like water as well as make a plan to be water in someone's life by refreshing, quenching and reviving other people this week. Our main passage is John 4

DEEP THOUGHTS

"A man prayed and at first he thought prayer lies in talking. But he became more and more quiet until in the end he realized prayer is listening." - Soren Kierkegaard (1813-1855)

"Prayer moves the arm which moves the world." - James Montgomery

Read 1 Samuel 2:22-4:22 and 1 Samuel 5:1-7:17

JUNIOR HIGH YOUTHQUEST

Tonight we had a gift exchange to finish off our week of "God is Like a Gift." We exchanged stories of how we were like a gift to someone this week. We recapped our memory verse (Ephesians 2:8). We also played some water games to introduce this Sunday's lesson, "God is Like Water." John, congrats on being able to pick grapes out of a bowl and eat them with your toes... You are one talented junior higher!

It was a crowded house with 49 boys out tonight! For the month of May our Character Matters trait is courage - We face challenges directly. We seek help from others when necessary. We do the right thing even when it may be unpopular. We are able to recognize risks and danger and do not take unwise risks to gain the approval of those around us.

Congratulations to Krishon and Nirogen who won MVP honours.

JUNIOR HIGH SUNDAY SCHOOL

Today we look at how God is like a gift. Our memory verse is Ephesians 2:8 - For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.

We look to understand why God is like a gift as well as how we can be a gift to others by giving ourselves. We also write out a plan of action for being a gift this week.

5 MINUTE DEVOTIONS

... He has given each one of us a special gift through the generosity of Christ - Ephesians 4:7 NLT

You are a gifted and talented person. You may not know what special abilities you have, but as you grow into the person God wants you to be, you will figure it out. What gifts do you think you have? How would others answer this question about you?

SENIOR HIGH YOUTHQUEST

Today we looked at Ruth – Keeping promises
Commitment means more than just saying the right words
· Few people understand the meaning of commitment. Maybe because there are so few examples around. Parents separate, families have fights and don’t talk to each other anymore, empty promises corrupt our experience of commitment
· God’s plan for us is to honour our commitments – learning to live them out.

CHARACTER MATTERS

Check out some quotes about character:

Character is what you are in the dark - Dwight L. Moody

There is no right way to do the wrong thing

Right is always right, even if nobody is doing it and wrong is always wrong, even if everybody is doing it - Ben Haden
"Anger" is just one letter short of "danger"
