DEEP THOUGHTS

For most of my life, when I heard messages about following Jesus, I thought in terms of trying hard to be like him... It generally didn't work any better than would my trying hard to run a marathon for which I had not trained. I would end up exhausted and defeated. Given the way we are prone to describe "following Jesus," it is a wonder anyone wants to do it at all. Spiritual transformation is not a matter of trying harder, but of training wisely - John Ortberg.

JUNIOR HIGH SUNDAY SCHOOL

This past Sunday we looked at James 4:13-17

Now listen, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money." Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, "If it is the Lord's will, we will live and do this or that." As it is, you boast and brag. All such boasting is evil. Anyone, then, who knows the good he out to do and doesn't do it, sins.

JUNIOR HIGH SUNDAY SCHOOL

On Sunday we studied James 4:1-12 "Submit Yourselves to God"

Some key verses were:
vs. 1 What causes fighting and quarreling among you? Don't they come from your desires that battle within you?

vs. 6h God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble

vs. 7 Submit yourselves, then to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

vs. 10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.

Next week we look at James 4:13-17, "Boasting About Tomorrow"

JUNIOR HIGH SUNDAY SCHOOL

On Sunday we looked at James 3:13-18 (Two Kinds of Wisdom)

13Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show it by his good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom.

14But if you harbour bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth.

15Such "wisdom" does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, of the devil.

16For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.

17But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.

18Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness.

DEEP THOUGHTS

The Irony of Jesus' day was that the 'righteous' were more damaged by their righteousness than the sinners were by their sin. Tragically, it is possible to think we are becoming more spiritual when in fact we are only becoming more smug and judgmental - John Ortberg

GREENSBOROUGH P.S. DIVERSITY AND FUN FAIR

Today was a great day for the Greensborough Community. The annual Fun fair took place from 10-3 starting off with a 5k walk/run. There were tables from all over the world with food and information about different countries, bouncy castles, a friendly soccer match between adults and children, lots of great food from the BBQ and of course, the principal and vice-principal getting whipped cream in the face - all to raise money for the school.

YOUTHQUEST BASKETBALL

Tonight we finished out our year at Greensborough by having a fun night for the volunteer adult and student leaders. We had a great time playing basketball together and celebrating another great year of Cornerstone YouthQuest basketball at Greensborough. This year was special because we had 22 volunteers! t really made a difference having some many different people with different skills, gifts and passions. Tonight, our volunteers were honoured as MVP's.

DEEP THOUGHTS

What is faith? It is the confident assurance that what we hope for is going to happen. It is the evidence of things we cannot yet see - Hebrews 11:1 (NLT)
